Aurora’s B1 Gruppo Cycling Team wins two gold medals at Canadian Masters Road Cycling Championships in Alberta

Aurora Sports Hall of Famer Paolina Allan just keeps on rolling.

Allan finished first in the Master C Category at the Cycling Canada Canadian Masters Road Cycling Championships in the Individual Time Trial in Calgary on Saturday.

It was the fifth time the ASHoF inductee has won the Canadian championship.

The Aurora-based B1 Gruppo Squadra Cycling team captured a second gold medal in the foothills of Alberta when Deirdre Maloney won the Master B category.

According to B1 Gruppo Squadra team spokesman Vito Barbera, “Racing alone against the clock—the time trial is cycling’s ultimate test of individual power, speed, and determination, and both B1 women delivered championship-winning performances. Two of B1 Gruppo Squadra’s top female riders [made] their presence known [when] team leader Paolina Allan and teammate Deirdre Maloney struck GOLD in their respective Individual Time Trial categories.”

Both Allan and Maloney will compete in the Canadian Championships Road Race.

According to Barbera, the cycling teammates will “battle a strong peloton featuring some of the best Masters women across Canada. The championships will conclude with the fast and furious Criterium.”
