York Region Transit’s school routes return September 8

York Region students return to school next week – and special bus routes designed to get them to school and back home again are hitting the roads.
York Region Transit (YRT) announced several transit changes on September 1 ahead of back-to-school season, some routes of which have been modified since June.
“Schedule and route adjustments will be made to various routes to better align transit service with customer demand and operate service more efficiently across the transit network,” says YRT.
Returning and modified school routes include:
- Route 426 – Dr. G.W. Williams School Special via Stone: Adjusted to operate along St. John’s Sideroad to increase service coverage;
- Route 432 – Aurora School Special via Mavrinac: Updated to operate along Mavrinac Boulevard and St. John’s Sideroad to provide increased service coverage.
- Route 437 – St. Maximilian Kolbe School Special via Mavrinac: Modified to operate along Mavrinac Boulevard and St. John’s Sideroad to increase service coverage.
- Route 438 – St. Maximilian Kolbe School Special via Orchard Heights: Introduced to serve students travelling between the Orchard Heights neighbourhood and St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic High School.
Additional school routes beyond Aurora include:
- Route 404 – Markville School Special: Revised due to redevelopment on Helen Avenue, service will begin from a new stop at Greenwater Gate/Lane 8;
- Route 414 – St. Katharine Drexel School Special: Extended to serve the subdivision south of Hoover Park Drive, an additional morning trip will be added to support growing ridership;
- Routes 418 and 419 – Pierre Elliott Trudeau School Specials: Restructured into two separate routes: 418 via 16th Avenue and 419 via Major Mackenzie Drive;
- Route 445 – St. Robert School Special via Spadina: Additional afternoon trip added to address overcrowding;
- Routes 464 and 465 – St. Joan of Arc School Specials: Revised to better serve communities around Peter Rupert Avenue and Sweetriver Boulevard, with Route 465 renamed;
- St. Joan of Arc School Special via Peter Rupert;
- Route 468 – Emily Carr School Special via Kleinburg: Discontinued due to low ridership;
- Route 471 – Stephen Lewis School Special via Dufferin: Renamed and revised to operate along Ravineview Drive, Kirby Road and Dufferin Street.
