Start Thanksgiving in style with outdoor music and “Fall Faves”

The Thanksgiving Long Weekend is here, and there are plenty of ways to get a head-start on seasonal fun in Aurora.

The party is set to begin on Thursday, October 8, from 6.30 – 8.30 p.m. with the Town of Aurora’s annual Colours of Fall Concert under the vivid tree canopy of Town Park.

The Colours of Fall Concert, the final music event to take place at Town Park this year, will feature a festive corn roast and a chance to carve some pumpkins while the ever-popular Mudmen perform their blend of Celtic energy, bag pipes, storytelling, and more from the Bandshell.

“I think we have the perfect recipe for how everyone should start their Thanksgiving Long Weekend,” says Shelley Ware, Special Events Supervisor for the Town of Aurora. “It’s our final concert of the year and we’re going to have bonfires set up in the park, we’ll provide carving tools as well as pumpkins for people to carve their own pumpkins to take home, and with the Mudmen, there’s nothing like pumpkins, corn, bonfires and bagpipes!

“If this is [someone’s] first-time experience at Colours of Fall, there’s no better time than with the Mudmen. You will definitely get your fill of bagpipes as well as your fill of classic music we can all identify. It’s going to be a very, very pleasant Thursday night because literally the next day is the start of the long weekend.”

The fun continues on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon as the Town hosts the third annual Fall Faves event outside at Aurora Town Square.

Fall Faves was first hosted by the Town as part of Aurora Town Square’s opening weekend and has only grown in popularity.

Activities include pumpkin carving, set to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the Aurora Public Library Story Time at 10.30 a.m., with Line Dancing with New Age Country rounding out the program from 11.30 a.m. to 12 noon.

“The whole time there’ll be lots of outdoor activities [and] outdoor games for families to bring their kiddos through to do,” says Nichole Campsall, the Town of Aurora’s Cultural Development Coordinator, encouraging families to stroll over to Town Square after visiting the Aurora Farmers’ Market in the morning. “We also will have pumpkins while supplies last, so if you missed out on Thursday night, you can come and see us and you’ll have a pumpkin and you’ll be able to carve it up. We have people who sit and carve together in the Square, and we have some who just take it home for later. It’s a nice little start to that spooky season as well, getting ready for Halloween. We’ll also be handing out 75 coupons for a free cider from My Indie Coffee (the café within Aurora Town Square). Once the coupons are gone, they’re gone – and we definitely ran out quickly last year, but cider is a perfect fall favourite.

“At 10.30 a.m., we’ll have the Aurora Public Library Story Time, probably one of the favourite parts of the event since the beginning. We love to have the Library there to celebrate with us. Then, at 11.30, we have New Age Country coming to do line dancing. We brought them in last year and it was so cool to see everybody in the Square line dancing and having so much fun.”
