Our very own ASA member and all-round nice person, Jan Freedman entered the Baking and Preserving portion of the Homecraft Division of the Schomberg Fair with her delicious and nutritious baking and preserves, ending up winning the Champion Cook’s Plaque for the highest total points in the competition!
That win comes with the plaque and $100. Jan, pictured below with her win (and some tasty treats) – also won three of the special categories sponsored by Mazola Corn Oil (apricot and cherry cake), Robin Hood Flour (chocolate banana loaf) and the Pioneer Brand Honey category (traditional honey cake).
Among the winners of first place ribbons were Jan’s banana loaf, cinnamon loaf, zucchini loaf, strawberry jam, rhubarb jelly, apricot jam, sour cherry jam and zucchini pickles.
She is a very talented and a very lucky lady! Anyone who is interested in trying any of the winning preserves is invited to visit Jan at the Aurora Farmers’ Market and Artisan Fair any Saturday at the Town Park. Congratulations Jan!
SILVER STARS DRAMA CLUB
On Friday, May 10, the Silver Stars Drama Club held a very successful variety show, “Let Us Entertain You”. We wish to acknowledge and thank all the performers for their excellent performances and to many of you who spent their time and effort at many rehearsals! Thanks also to the crew/committee members who helped behind the scenes by moving props, setting up the food, runners, etc. Also to our emcee, Bert, who kept the show running! Lastly, thank you to the members of the audience who came to the show and supported all our efforts. Judy Buchanan is our Director of the Silver Stars. Wonderful job Judy and the Silver Stars!
