I once thought of a billiard room or a pool room, as a dark and dingy place filled with smoke, men of questionable reputation and absolutely no women.
That certainly doesn’t describe the pool/billiard room at the Aurora Seniors’ Centre: a beautiful, bright large room with windows across 1½ walls looking out over the Petch House and the Aurora Arboretum. Two snooker tables and two pool tables are in regular use, not just by men but women as well.
It is an absolute delight to walk down the halls at the Seniors’ Centre and hear the laughter and happy tones that emanate from our pool/billiard room. If you are over 55 and play pool, or want to learn to play pool, the Aurora Seniors’ Centre is the place to join.
Our ladies can be found on Monday mornings starting at 9 a.m., and there is no question about the great time they are having. Most other days are on a drop in basis for men and women and, of course, lining yourself up with a friend or two to play with.
Keep Singing
Possibly you are more interested joining a group of twenty or so happy people that claim they have no talent. They come in every Thursday morning and sing, just because. Sorry, this is not a choir, but members that enjoy singing and enjoy being together. When you hear the laughter and enjoyment it is easy to understand why they are so young at heart.
This group started out with a handful of people, has steadily grown and they are definitely looking for you to join them. If you like to sing in the shower maybe this is the group for you.
Stay Walking
Some older adults are looking to be a little more active and although they walk year round, the summer is the best time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Every Wednesday morning at 9.30 a.m, the Walking Club meets at the Seniors’ Centre and they go walking. Each week they choose a different location and sometimes carpool to a new starting place.
There is no need to register; just show up, walk and stay healthy.
Get Buying
August 1 is Seniors Day at the Aurora Farmers’ Market, and our members will be on stage to show you some of our many talents. We will also have a table/booth so come and say hello, ask questions about membership and/or pick up a newsletter or membership application.
If you are interested in becoming a member or volunteer, we are located at 90 John West Way across from the Aurora Town Hall. Come for a visit or a tour or give us a call at 905-716-4767. We are always willing to show you around or brag about the great benefits of the Aurora Seniors’ Association.
