No hydrant service in July 22 fire

An Aurora home that was damaged by an electrical fire on July 22 was not serviced by fire hydrants.

Last Wednesday, at approximately 5.20 p.m., Central York Fire Services were called to a structure fire on Vandorf Sideroad.

“The property is in a rural area within Aurora with no hydrant water supply available,” said the CYFS in a statement. “Therefore, CYFS performed tanker shuttle operations. Richmond Hill Fire & Emergency Services assisted with mutual aid and by providing a tanker truck and personnel.

“Upon arrival, the first arriving fire engine reported heavy black smoke coming from the main floor. Fire crews made entry [and] located a fire in the basement.”

CYFS quickly deemed the blaze an electrical fire.

No injuries were reported.

“CYFS responded with four trucks, 17 firefighters, one Chief Officer and one Senior Officer. Other responding agencies included York Regional Police (YRP), York Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the local utility company.”
