An apartment building due to be constructed on a vacant lot on Yonge Street, just south of the Wellington Street Intersection, is due to come up for discussion this Thursday, May 8, at Town Hall.

Slated to be built between the Old Town Hall and the Post Office/Clock Tower building on the east side of Yonge Street, the proposal has come under close scrutiny of neighbours and adjacent business owners who have voiced their concerns both over the process leading up to the approval of the plan, as well as potential parking issues in the area.

“A lot of [area business owners] had no knowledge this was bring proposed and I just want Council to think about it and review it because this is a situation where if one person is allowed to do this, I think all of the businesses should be allowed to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and without handing out any documentation to the neighbours that are affected by what you are trying to propose out there on Yonge Street,” said area resident Ray Nicolini at a recent Council meeting.

Minor variances related to the site, including parking, are up for review at the Committee of Adjustment, which takes place in Council chambers starting at 7 p.m.
