Aurora’s Trinity Anglican Church has moved to become a place of worship allowing same sex marriage.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the Victoria Street church following what Reverend Dawn Davis described as a lively discussion over Trinity’s future path.
“We had a town hall [meeting] and the question was raised: would we be able to be a community that allows same sex marriage?” said Davis. “Under my 30 years of ministry, that night stood out as one of the top five holy, sacred events that I have been a part of. There was a tremendous amount of respect, love, and intentional listening.
“I am very proud to say our church is going to be moving in that direction. The Bishop asked us to go through this process [and] we will ask him if he now will assign us as one of the churches in our area that will allow same sex marriage to take place.
“Not everyone was along the same line. There was diversity within our group, but what we heard is that nobody wanted anyone to stop the direction the consensus was forming. As a matter of fact, they just felt they needed some time to get the knowledge to understand who they were in this. It was very respectful and so loving.”
