York Regional Council has signed off on the York Regional Police’s 2014 Budget.
At an operating budget of $278.1 million and a capital budget of $29.2 million, the budget has gone up 3.89 per cent over 2013, “the lowest percentage increase in 18 years,” police note. In the budget, the YRP will bring online 16 new officers and 30 civilian positions.
“With the continuing growth of York Region, we must serve our community in a sustainable, responsive manner,” said Police Chief Eric Jolliffe in a statement. “I believe this budget serves that goal and enables us to maintain our crime prevention and law enforcement programs.”
