(Re: Chamber wants answers on vacant storefronts, January 19)
It was disturbing to read Chairman Javed Khan’s comments of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce regarding the many “For Lease” signs emerging in ever increasing numbers as businesses shut down in our area.
The key cause one hears about continually is the dramatic rise in electricity costs. How could we let this happen? One of Ontario’s key competitive assets used to be low cost hydro.
It would now appear recent Government policies have fundamentally changed our competitiveness as it relates electricity costs.
Industry is not the only part of our economy being affected.
Just ask nearby farming friends who have seen their monthly bills doubled and tripled. They are suffering too.
To further burden Ontario’s cost base, we now have Cap and Trade being introduced.
Have our Green initiatives taken us too far?
