Government has “turned its back” on veterans

December 11, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Another veteran from the Afghanistan war has committed suicide.
That brings the total in the last month to four, plus many others who have been so negatively affected by this war that Canada has participated in.
These innocent men (soldiers) risked their lives, and many did die in the war, to help another country. They knew that this was their duty but they also thought, mistakenly, that the Harper government would help them when they returned to Canada.
Instead, the Harper government has turned its back on these so important veterans. They have closed certain Veterans Affairs offices, they have taken back certain privileges that these veterans required and cut certain programs that would have helped these veterans fit back into regular life in Canada. Instead, Harper continues to hide the truth about the Senate scandal and he continues to protect these overpaid government appointments.
Millions and millions of dollars wasted on this useless branch of our government, money that should be aimed at real issues such as the veterans, or the seniors, or the youth of Canada. The list continues to grow as Harper, who promised to reform the Senate appoints his own people instead of following through on his election promises.
To me it was a disgrace to see Lois Brown and other Harper MPs lay wreaths on the cenotaph in Aurora and in other communities to honour those who have died at the Remembrance Day services on November 11.
I guess they thought that this would forgive all of their shortcomings regarding their poor treatment of our veterans.
