The legacies and continued dedication of Aurora’s servicemen and women have been recognized with a Bronze Telly Award.
“Remembrance Day: Past, Present and Future” is the documentary commissioned by Aurora’s Sesquicentennial Committee in 2013 as a lasting legacy project for the Town’s 150th Birthday.
Filmed and produced with 2 Thumbs Up Productions, it was unveiled at Council last year and picked up some hardware this year, from the body, founded in 1979 to recognize “the finest film and video productions, groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films, and outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs.”
“This is a wonderful achievement for the Town, the Sesquicentennial Committee, local veterans and 2 Thumbs Up Productions,” said Mayor Geoff Dawe in a statement. “We are proud to be part of this commemoration and we are pleased to recognize our local veterans for their courage and strength.
The hardware was picked up by producer Joe Costa and shared with Council last week.
In a presentation, Mr. Costa said the objective was to illustrate the significance of Remembrance Day, “as told through the eyes of the individuals who sacrificed their freedoms so we can continue to enjoy ours.”
“This was an important story that needed to be told and still needs to be told,” Mr. Costa told Council. “I was quite thrilled and honoured to be the production company selected to do this video. Earlier this year I was honoured once again when the video received a 2016 Bronze Telly Award in the Non-Broadcast Educational Video Category. I was honoured because even in an international competition, the stories of our veterans, our people, our Town of Aurora, had an impact and resonated with individuals many, many miles away.”
