The Saints will go marching into the under-16 CISAA quarterfinals next Tuesday on home court after a successful season.

The St. Andrew’s College team closed out the volleyball regular season with a win on Wednesday, taking down Royal St. George’s College in four highly-contested sets. Up two sets to one, the Saints were down 20 – 23 in the fourth as the match seemed destined to head to a fifth and deciding set, only for Drew Crix to serve up five aces for the Saints to earn the victory.

While the team was without captain and leading scorer Dara Goharchi and outside hitter Carson Ricca, their teammates were able to step up their play to close out the season on a positive note. Coaches Anthony Gilroy and Kristen Kang credited Noah Hulton as the “spark and greatest offensive threat” for the Saints in the game, and was “completely dominant” at the net.

The win closes out the Saints’ season with a 4-2-0 record, good for third place in CISAA standings. That sets them up for a rematch with Royal St. George’s, who finished sixth in the league with a 1-5-0 record.

Appleby College (6-0-0) and St. Michael’s College (5-1-0) both earn byes straight to the semi-final.

The Saints will be keeping warmed up over the weekend at a tournament in Mississauga before their quarterfinal match on November 3.
