An impressive eight Aurora Panthers squads have moved on to the second round of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League playdowns.
The Midget A Panthers, the highest level of play to move on to the quarterfinals, earned their ticket to the second round last week with a pair of shutout wins over the Vaughan Flames. A scoreless road tie against the North York Storm and a 2 -1 loss at the Aurora Community Centre on Thursday has the Panthers against the ropes in their best-of-three series.
In Midget BB, the Panthers have taken a 1 – 0 series lead with a 3 – 1 win over the Scarborough Sharks in game one of their matchup, fresh off a 5 – 1 drubbing of the Markham-Stouffville Stars to reach the second round.
Three Bantam teams find themselves still competing, with the Bantam As and the Bantam BBs each battling the Etobicoke Dolphins, while the Bantam Bs fell 3 – 1 in their first game of a series with the Orillia Hawks.
The PeeWee A Panthers are up against the Whitby Wolves and find themselves in a 1 – 0 hole, while the Atom A’s are yet to begin their matchup with their respective Wolves squad.
The Atom BBs round out the playoff competition with a second round series against the Barrie Sharks, winning game one 2 – 1 before falling in game two 2 – 0 to send the series to a third and deciding game.
