Two Minor PeeWee Aurora Tigers squads celebrated a York-Simcoe championship within the same hour at the Aurora Community Centre on Saturday.
The Minor PeeWee A’s cruised to a 4 – 1 victory in the fifth and deciding game of their series with the Richmond Hill Stars, notching four unanswered goals after falling behind early. They went 3-0-1 in early March against the Newmarket Redmen to set up the divisional final matchup, a back-and-forth affair in which the Tigers came out with two 4 – 1 victories and a 4 – 3 thriller.
It was a similar ending for the Minor PeeWee AE’s on the ACC’s other ice pad, earning a 4 – 0 shutout of the Newmarket Redmen to capture the York-Simcoe title. The Tigers were in control of the series following a Game 1 loss, and needed only a tie Saturday to clinch the championship.
The wins wrap up the season for all but the Minor Bantam AE Tigers, who continued their York-Simcoe final series Wednesday in Barrie.
