The “living room” at the Aurora Public Library was a hive of activity on Saturday as members of Local Colour Aurora unpacked their easels and paints, unrolled their canvasses, and set to work capturing Jan Freedman the best way they knew how.

Ms. Freedman, of Jan’s Country Pantry, a mainstay of the Aurora Farmers’ Market which returns to Wells Street this Saturday, was the latest subject in the initiative which aims to capture the people, places and things that make Aurora tick.

Local Colour Aurora is the initiative of local artists Judy Sherman and Eva Folks, who have brought together a diverse array of artists, who have spent nearly a year (and counting) fanning out across Aurora looking for hidden gems to immortalize with their paints, clay and chisels, to shine a light on Aurora for Aurorans.

An exhibition of just a sampling of their work so far is currently on display in the Colleen Abbott Gallery at the Aurora Public Library, through June 6.

Keep your eyes peeled for the artists as they continue their work, including upcoming plein air sessions at the Market.
