Komar was “wonderful teacher”

(Re: Grateful students thank late teacher, July 24)

I was saddened to read in The Auroran of the passing of Olive Komar, my Grade 4 teacher at Wells Street Public School.
I whole heartedly agree with the letter proclaiming what a wonderful teacher Mrs. Komar was.
There are people that make a lasting impression on you throughout your lives, and I find myself thinking back to Grade 4 on a regular basis, simply because of Mrs. Komar. For Grade 4 students, especially now with shortened words used during texting, spelling was and is a chore. Mrs. Komar taught her students a little saying in order to remember how to spell the word GEOGRAPHY. It goes like this: George Ebison’s Old Grandmother Rode A Pig Home Yesterday.
I still find myself reciting that line ever time I spell out that word.
