Children’s smiles and hot sun lit up All Sport One Day

Sport Aurora’s All Sport One Day initiative saw success in its inaugural event.

The initiative, which was introduced a few months ago, sold out in the first 24 hours of being posted on May 12.

The desire to return to play has left plenty of children itching to return to some sort of normalcy. On June 14, the Ontario government had announced a safe plan to return to play for all sports organizations and since then everyone has marvelled at the opportunity to finally get back at it.

“This unique event was both timely and necessary to show the pent-up demand there is for parents to get their kids safely back into healthy activity,” said Ron Weese, President of Sport Aurora, in a statement.

Sport Aurora planned the day to be two three-hour sessions at McMahon Park.

Sports like soccer, tennis, lawn bowling, badminton and martial arts were offered.

Local sports organizations like Total Tennis, the Aurora Community Tennis Club, Rising Stars Soccer Academy, Aurora Lawn Bowling Club and Aurora Family Martial Arts members were there to instruct the children through their activities.

Instead of parents having to spend money to register their children in a sport with the potential of their child disliking the activity, this free opportunity was an excellent way for children to learn what is and what isn’t for them.

Sport Aurora confirmed many parents were so satisfied with the event that they had proposed this become a regular thing moving forward.

The organization also publicly thanked the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their generosity.

Their Resilient Communities Fund Grant is what had supported the day.

For parents who missed this and for those still interested, there will be another ASOD day set to take place on August 14.

Registration will open July 14 at sportaurora.ca.
