Aurora has a sole representative heading forward in the competitive YRAA basketball playoffs.
The Cardinal Carter Celtics are one of sixteen teams to reach the third round of York Region’s AAA bracket, the largest bracket in York Region Athletic Association sports.
Heading into their matchup on Friday with the St. Roberts Rams, both teams were evenly matched, playing to a 4 – 5 record through the regular season.
The Celtics squeaked out a 56 – 44 victory in a back-and-forth effort.
Next up for Cardinal Carter is their most challenging opponent yet, facing one of the top seeds in AAA basketball in the Vaughan Voyageurs: former home of NBA star Andrew Wiggins.
Vaughan was one of two teams to go 7 – 1 in the league’s top bracket, along with Thornhill Secondary School.
The playoffs culminate next Thursday, when the two finalists will go head-to-head in Keswick.
St. Maximilian Kolbe fell by the wayside to the Markville Marauders last week in a “win and you’re in” game, while Aurora High School was eliminated by a strong Sir William Mulock squad in the opening round.
