Aurora’s Chief Administrative Officer Neil Garbe will leave his position at the end of June, The Auroran has learned.
Mr. Garbe’s resignation was confirmed to The Auroran by several sources, including councillors, on Tuesday afternoon, who noted his departure would leave a “huge void” at Town Hall.
It is understood he is leaving Aurora to take up the presently vacant position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at the Town of Richmond Hill.
Mr. Garbe was hired CAO was appointed to his position by Council in 2008, taking up the post on January 5, 2008, replacing John Rogers. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Garbe was with the Region of York, serving as Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Administration, previously holding the position of Director of Community Planning for the Region as well.
Calls to Mr. Garbe were not returned by press time. However, Mayor Geoff Dawe and the Town’s Department of Corporate Communications said there was “nothing official” to announce at this time.
