As someone who loves to capture the magic of the holiday season, how do I incorporate current trends without replacing my existing home decor?

Decorating for Christmas is always fun, and incorporating new pieces can give your home a fresh look for the festive season – but how can this be done in a budget friendly way?  How can you introduce new accessories, colours and ornaments to an existing collection?

Tips on Getting Started

You don’t need to buy a lot of new or expensive items. Edit what you have and don’t be afraid to change things up.
How stunning would your place b if you added a pop of blue or emerald green? Christmas colour trends are endless and even glittery by nature. You can go with the more traditional holiday accents of gold, silver, crimson or White, but modern holiday decorating now lends itself to the richness of purple and fuchsia.
There’s nothing wrong with purchasing an inexpensive box of trendy coloured ornaments and incorporating them throughout your displays. I believe Christmas decorations have more impact when clustered in vignettes.
Put your collection of reindeers together and tie ribbons around their necks that showcase your holiday accent. Cluster a mismatched group of crystal candleholders together (vintage and new) and intertwine them with greenery and your new Christmas ornaments.
Organic elements are always timeless since they bring in the essence of the outdoors. Pinecones, acorns, and birch logs are always in style and are easy to add to your existing Christmas decorating ideas.
Don’t be afraid to decorate with festive foliage and embellish your garland or wreath, adding to the mantle for a completely renewed look. And remember, accent pillows, throws and coloured glass pieces, are another subtle way to add a splash of your new favourite holiday colour around the house.
Have some fun with holiday decorating this year. Try tossing some elf shoes by your front door or hang some Grinch stockings from your mantle. A little humor is always on trend and shows visitors the quirky side of you and your family.
Most importantly, don’t sweat it. Our lives are too busy to take it all too seriously. Christmas will come and go, but it is the memories that will last forever.
