Tigers fall to Colts and Panthers

March 24, 2022   ·   0 Comments

The Aurora Tigers dropped both games against their divisional opponents last week.

The boys fell 6-3 to the Collingwood Colts and 6-4 to the Pickering Panthers.

It might have been a story of the better team lost as the Tigers outshot the Colts 33-31 and went up by two goals by the end of the first period.

Wolfgang Govederis fired home his second of the season and Ty Roberts followed leaving Colts netminder Noah Pak puzzled.

In the second, it all seemed to go downhill for the Tigers. Cam Garvey scored twice, Will Redick and Mark McIntosh scored on the power play and Owen Sage added the fifth goal of the period to give the Colts a 5-2 advantage.

Captain Luc Reeve gave the boys some life with seven seconds left in the period.

In the third, Pak shut the door and Ricards Landmanis sealed the empty net goal as the Colts hung on for the win.

Against the Pickering Panthers it was a very similar story for the Tigers.

Both teams poured on 39 shots on goal but much to the Tigers’ dismay, it was the Panthers who prevailed in the end.

Ethan Lindsay got the Panthers up on the board and Tigers forward Lucas Stanojevic scored his second goal in his last five games to tie it up.

With seven seconds left in the first, Panthers forward Lucas Rowe scored his 23rd goal of the season to put the boys up by one.

In the second period, Matthew Godwin scored twice for the Tigers as both teams split two goals apiece.

But in the third, Jake Partridge entered the picture to spoil any hopes the Tigers may have had.

Reeve added the lone goal for the Tigers in the frame.

Over the course of this two-game week, the boys uncharacteristically could not capitalize on the power play and coughed up a short-handed goal.

The Tigers are slightly under the league average 15.928 per cent power play conversion rate.

The Tigers currently hold a 15.1 per cent success rate on the man advantage.

With just over one week left to go in the regular season, the Tigers are more than two games back of the Collingwood Colts.

The Colts, who will be the Tigers’ first-round matchup, currently hold home ice advantage.

This past Tuesday, the Tigers hosted the Stouffville Spirit at the Ajax Community Centre.

The results were not available at press time.

Former Toronto Maple Leaf and NHL forward Peter Holland was there to drop the puck and sign autographs for those who came out.
