(Re: “Fear mongering” comment over HCD is “patronizing”: Councillor, May 1, 2014)
Councillor Buck’s meandering, Mercer-style rant in last week’s Letters to the Editor was shameful and very unbecoming of a publicly elected official.
Setting aside the debate over the pros and cons of a Heritage Conservation District, John McIntyre, of anyone in this Town, has made a visible and lasting contribution to Aurora’s distinctive heritage brand and does not deserve to spoken of in such a demeaning way in the public pages.
If Councillor Buck’s words were an attempt at mischievous humour or sarcasm, she failed miserably.
Councillor Buck is to be respected for her long and colourful record of public service and dedication to the community.
It is regrettable to say, however, that the time has come for her to step aside before her misguided words and obstructionist ways at Council overshadow her many good deeds.
If she chooses not to, I for one will be looking forward to casting my ballot in the fall for someone who will more responsibly represent me and my community.
