Ward system would be “counterintuitive” to Aurora’s small-town feel

October 15, 2014   ·   0 Comments

A ward system by its very definition is parochial in nature and especially so in a small community such as Aurora.
Dividing Aurora into small geo political wards seems to be counter-intuitive to our desire to maintain the “small town atmosphere” that we aspire to and to a large extent have been successful in creating.
I believe the main reason for this success is that we have eight councillors who are directly accountable to every citizen. For their own political survival they have to be interested and concerned about all areas of our town as a whole, rather than small fragmented areas which would be the case if there were wards.
I believe a ward system would be a serious blow to the uniqueness of Aurora.
I believe Aurora is too small geographically and population-wise for a ward system.
I believe a ward system is divisive.
I believe a ward system is more costly.
I believe a ward system gives us less representation.
I believe a ward system is far less democratic.
I believe on October 27th we should vote NO to a ward system.
