SENIOR SCAPE: ASA Gets New Chromebook

On the recommendation of our Computer Club executive, the Aurora Seniors’ Association, purchased one 13.5-inch ASUS Chrome Book operating system, secured with a locking cable for general member use and education.
It is now installed in the Library. We encourage our members to use it and give us comments. A second Chromebook could be purchased for the Computer Room later in the year, pending feedback from users.

KNOTTY KNITTERS
The Knotty Knitters are a bunch of lively seniors who meet every Monday morning at the Seniors’ Centre to knit, share family happenings, jokes, knit, and knit some more. Any donations of knitting materials are quite welcome. We meet from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL DANCES
Friday Night Social Dances are scheduled for October 17 and October 31 from 8 – 11 p.m. Singles and non-members are always welcome. Members are $4.50, and $5 for non-members, including light refreshments. Cash bar is available with beer, wine, and soft drinks. October 31 is the Hallowe’en Dance and costumes are optional!

FILL A BOX FOR A SHUT-IN SENIOR
Through November 3, we will take donations of items (or cash) to fill boxes for shut-in seniors. Let’s make a senior feel special! Items you can donate include: soap, tea, flashlight with batteries, nail files, nail clippers, night light, cookies, lotion, and socks.

SUNCOR ENERGY FOUNDATION
We are very grateful to have received a donation of $750 to our organization as part of our Sun Cares Employee Grants program. This donation is a contribution towards Jim Abram’s Suncor Energy Foundation leadership request to our Bocce court upgrade in 2014. Suncor is proud to recognize Jim’s dedication as a volunteer on our Board of Directors.

TUESDAY NIGHT MOVIES
October 14 — Tea with Mussolini: Judi Dench, Maggie Smith (PG: 117 min) 1935. A group of elderly British women, who the Italians have named the Scorpioni, have chosen Italy, specifically Florence, as a place to live to blend their proper British sensibilities.

October 21 — Million Dollar Arm: Jon Hamm, Suraj Sharma (PG: 124 min) J. B. Bernstein is a sports agent who has decided to do something very different in his quest to find the best baseball players for the major leagues. He takes his eye for skill in baseball to India, where cricket is the predominant pastime.

October 28 — My House in Umbria: Maggie Smith, Chris Cooper (14A: 103 min) An unlikely group of people find solace and friendship after being thrown together in the wake of a terrorist attack.

Movies start at 6:30 pm sharp! $1.50 for Members and $2.00 for Non-Members, includes the movie, refreshments and popcorn!
All Tuesday Movies are limited to 60 people. Please come early to ensure your seat

SEMINAR
Learn how to save on energy with the Home Assistance Program! Learn the different ways your home uses elec-tricity as well as the ways you can save on your monthly electricity bill. The Home Assistance Program, sponsored by our local electrical utility, provides a free energy assessment of your home as well as free energy upgrades for qualified participants and appliances. Join us on October 22 at 1:00 pm in Activity Room C to learn more.
