Ward Councillors would have more interest in neighbourhoods: reader

It is interesting to see so many candidates seeking Council positions. Is that a sign of discontentment or is it genuine caring about the community?
Some candidates appear to be relative newcomers to the area and I wonder if they are aware of any of the history of the area, including the Oak Ridges Moraine or of the angst being suffered by the residents of Tyler Street and surrounding streets over the pending issues there?
The most interesting thing to me is that not one of these candidates has knocked on our door on Tyler Street. Tyler Street is, and has been under construction all summer with questionable engineering problems that have resulted in the houses on the north side of Tyler between Temperance Street and Mill Street below grade.
We used to be level. No Council candidate, nor Mayoral candidate has come to our doors. Collis Leather, the toxic property on Tyler Street is about to be demolished and rumour has it a high density development of townhouses (in excess of 150) is going to be built.
Local residents are already plagued with huge volumes of traffic and dust from school buses, cars, and delivery vehicles using Tyler and adjoining streets as a short cut away from Yonge and Wellington.
Are candidates running for election aware of any of this?
Do they care?
Do existing elected officials care?
I wish we had a Ward system in Aurora so that we would know who to go to in our Ward to help us address our concerns, and our Ward Councillor would be a local resident who would care, too.
