Weekly BBQ lunch
The Chartwell Group Retirement Homes (Alexander Muir and the Barton in Newmarket and Park Place Manor in Aurora) sponsored a BBQ lunch at the Seniors’ Centre on Wednesday July 17.
The event was very successful with close to 90 members having enjoyed the lunch. We thank the Chartwell Group staff for hosting this event. All proceeds from the ticket sales were donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Ms. Diana Provenzano, Regional Chair for the GTA, was on hand to accept the cheque.

Weekly BBQ Lunch & Movie
Our next BBQ lunch on Wednesday July 24 around 11.30 a.m. will be hosted by our very own Food Services Volunteers and will be followed by an afternoon movie. Deputy Mayor John Abel will be in attendance and provide some enjoyable musical entertainment for our seniors. Please call the Seniors’ Centre to reserve your tickets in advance as seating is limited.

Aurora’s Citizen of the Year
Congratulations to Ron Wallace for being named Aurora’s Citizen of the Year 2013. Ron received this honour from Mayor Geoffrey Dawe at a ceremony at Town Hall on Tuesday June 25. Ron is an active member of the Aurora Seniors’ Centre and a long-time supporter, right from the time he was a councillor. Ron Wallace, you make us proud!

Seniors Day at the Farmers’ Market
On Saturday August 3 at the Aurora Town Park, we invite all seniors to come and enjoy an hour of entertainment by members of the Aurora Seniors’ Association. We have planned an hour and half of songs, stories, comedy, songs/guitar, line dancing demos and much more. Admission is free. You can also visit the Farmers’ Market with all the fresh produce, baked goods and more!
Our Seniors’ Centre will also have three booths from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. rain or shine at the Seniors Day. Our Knotty Knitters, Sew Much Fun, Woodshop Rebels, and volunteers are all intending to show off and sell their crafts. Also, members of the Seniors’ Centre chess club will be ready to challenge anyone to a lively game of chess.

Outdoor Pickle ball court
The Aurora Seniors’ Centre has obtained approval from Town for the proposal to provide one outdoor court for playing pickle ball by converting an existing tennis court to accommodate the continuing increase in demand for the game, which cannot be adequately met by the one currently available indoor court at the Seniors’ Centre.
The Town is in the process of having the necessary work completed by overlaying the PB court lines on an existing tennis court located at the Norm Weller park area. Once the court is marked, this court can be used for either tennis or pickle ball. This court will be one of the first dual use outdoor courts in Ontario.

For more information on the Aurora Seniors’ Centre and all it has to offer, drop by 90 John West Way, visit the web site www.auroraseniors.ca, email auroraseniors@rogers.com or call 905-726-4767 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
