Anthony Romano can now say he has seen his name on the stat sheet for Team Canada.
That has to be quite the feeling.
Just barely into his seventeenth year, the rookie phenom for the Aurora Tigers is representing Canada East at the World Jr. A Challenge in Nova Scotia, picking up an assist in a 5 – 1 loss to Team Russia on Sunday.
With the Canadians down 4 – 0 late in the second period, it was Romano who centered the pass to Nick Campoli, whose wrister was deflected by Jack McBain, an all OJHL line.
Romano was also a plus-two for the Canadians in their first win of the tournament, a 4 – 3 win over Switzerland on Monday.
A short two-game regulation round is followed by an elimination tournament later this week, with final standings yet to be determined.
He has managed twelve goals and nineteen assists for 31 points with Aurora this season.
