Aurora needs town-wide parking strategy

November 10, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Aurora Council has been incapable of solving GO Transit parking problems.
In fact, the Council has gone out of its way to make transit users unwelcome by limiting street parking to three hours within any reasonable distance of the GO station.
But now Council has decided to allow residents to park on the street during the winter. It does not take a great deal of imagination to figure out what comes next: complaints that streets not being fully cleared of snow because of parked cars, or parked cars being buried by plows, and, of course, the new revenue stream for the Town…lots and lots of parking tickets.
All of this to solve what problem? Perhaps Council could spend some time developing a year round parking strategy for the Town instead of “fixing” one parking problem at a time and only to the satisfaction of whomever screams loudest.
I am not holding my breath expecting that to happen.
