Aurora students Chen Liu and Julia Garbe will be two of 160 Ontario students in Toronto this Saturday to receive their Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award of Achievement from Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.

The ceremony will be held at the Toronto Police College in Etobicoke.

Chen, a student at Aurora High School, will be recognized for his outstanding volunteerism within the school community, his work at local municipal pools, and his love for the great outdoors.

Julia, a student at Country Day School, will be honoured for her work as a volunteer within her school and within the Aurora community for various initiatives, including the annual Clean-Up Day.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards were founded by Prince Philip in 1956, expanding to Canada in 1964. It encourages youth in the areas of community service and learning new skills, as well as promoting physical literacy and adventures in nature.
