Last November, six leaders in sport were immortalized forever in the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

The hall is now looking for the public\u2019s help in determining the class of 2015.<\/p>\n

March is known as \u201cNomination Month\u201d for the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame, as nominations are opened to the public for those looking to recognize someone who has been a key part of sport in Aurora.<\/p>\n

During last month\u2019s Sport Aurora annual general meeting, executives of the committee were on hand to implore Aurora\u2019s sports organizations to send in nominations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been able to witness the induction ceremony for thirteen honoured members, and know how honoured they are to be inducted into a hall of fame,\u201d said Nancy Black, Project Manager at Sport Aurora. \u201cIt can be one of the biggest moments of someone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that said, Black made note that the first step in becoming an inductee is to be nominated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a critical phase of the induction ceremony to be nominated, and that\u2019s where the organizations, the parents, the athletes, everyone comes in.\u201d
\nWhile the sporting community in Aurora is fairly tight-knit, and many residents know of other\u2019s sports backgrounds anecdotally, Sport Aurora needs those involved at the core of the sporting community to come forward with names and nominations.<\/p>\n

Within the Hall of Fame is three categories: Athlete, Builder, and Coach. While the athlete category may stand out more prominently, it\u2019s often those behind the scenes that get overlooked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we think of the prominent athlete, we can track their stats and see them on the field or ice, but we don\u2019t have the historical narrative on those that we don\u2019t have as much access to,\u201d said Black. \u201cSo, we need the public\u2019s help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now with a membership of 13, last year\u2019s induction ceremony was one of the sports highlights of the year in Aurora, hosted by TSN\u2019s James Duthie.
\nNominations will be accepted until March 31. <\/p>\n
