I re-read the story for signs of accountability.
\nThree months in office and elected a month-and-a-half earlier is as long as the project is late.
\nA media event before the election halted work for a day or more, no doubt intended to distract from what was not accomplished. What gives? What has the Mayor and Council been doing? They are the responsible party. They are in charge.
\nPublicly floundering about in frustration doesn\u2019t cut it.
\nThe predicament is of their doing, or undoing as the case may be. Lack of attention to a problem is no less culpable.
\nFive months late and three quarters of a million dollars to be ponied up, a scarcely veiled threat of litigation against the town in a public meeting by a Director. How is that acceptable? What of the flurry of other lame excuses?
\nFull prior investigations of the site weren\u2019t done because of time constraints; flawed design work as a result. Staff did their best with limited authority. The extra can be paid from Development Charges; it\u2019s not like real money. If proper investigation had been done at first, it would have cost money, so paying then or paying now, it really doesn\u2019t make no never mind.
\nMould was found in air ducts.
\nMould grows in moist, dank, dark places without benefit of air movement. Ducts are for the purpose of moving air. Mould growing in a duct is as likely as taking salt from a solution.
\nReading The Auroran story,
\nI searched in vain for comment from our fearless leader.
\nHis aversion to micromanagement is known, but accountability is surely a reasonable expectation.
\nWe voted for it. We certainly pay for it.
\nEscalation is already established in the $26 million Joint Facility Project. Traffic problems are anticipated from the disastrous choice of location.
\nIs anyone out there?<\/p>\n
