The Aurora Cultural Centre is pleased to offer a vibrant Culture Days celebration on Saturday, September 27, with music, art, dance and food taking centre stage. <\/p>\n

The public is warmly invited to this free, all-ages event, which takes place between 12 \u2013 4 p.m. throughout the Centre.
\nFrom 12 noon to 2 p.m. in Brevik Hall, we\u2019re celebrating Persian culture! <\/p>\n

The Centre has partnered with a variety of performing artists who will present a roster of Persian classical, dance and pop music. Enjoy a classical music trio featuring Mahmoud Parhami, Mehdi Yousefian and Ahmad Shahanaghi, who together will present music on the tonbak (a goblet-shaped drum), tar (a long-necked stringed instrument) and daf (a large frame drum).<\/p>\n

Guests will then enjoy contemporary Iranian pop music, followed by a presentation of classical piano. Shohreh Haghiri will present a vocal program highlighting classical and folkloric music from Iran, followed by a short folkloric dance presentation. To enhance the experience, guests are also invited to sample tea served the traditional way in a samovar, and enjoy traditional sweets. <\/p>\n

Volunteers from York Culture magazine will be on site that afternoon to showcase the work of their new publication.<\/p>\n

The Centre is proud to present this complimentary performing arts presentation on Culture Days as part of the \u201cOne Book One Aurora\u201d community read project.<\/p>\n

Guests are invited to meet our exhibiting artists that day from 1 \u2013 4 p.m. as we launch their new fall exhibitions. <\/p>\n

Longtime Aurora High School Visual Arts head William Lottering presents Parchment Pieces, a moving large-scale exhibition in the Great Hall that addresses topics of passages and justice. Working in various mediums, Lottering\u2019s pieces are presented as visual documents that contain notes, ideas and images \u2013 always retaining the dusty, earthy appearance of historic artifacts. <\/p>\n

In the Meridian and Blue Galleries, Jane Geard, SCA, OSA and Christine Kim present their unique collaboration Cutting Edge, an exhibition in paper featuring solar etchings, paper-cut collages and collagraphs, a collage printmaking technique. Paper dresses, shoes, large-scale, intricately-cut panels \u2013 this surprising exhibition brings to mind a paper labyrinth. Remarks will be made at 1.30 p.m., and complimentary refreshments will be on hand.<\/p>\n

Guests of all ages are welcome to drop by as part of the wider Culture Days celebrations today \u2013 look for your Culture Days Passport in today\u2019s edition of The Auroran to plan your day!<\/p>\n
