{"id":7332,"date":"2014-07-09T17:38:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T21:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=7332"},"modified":"2014-07-16T18:21:24","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T22:21:24","slug":"aurora-united-church-continues-journey-with-exhibition-marking-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/aurora-united-church-continues-journey-with-exhibition-marking-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurora United Church continues journey with exhibition marking fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Brock Weir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The images of the iconic landmark that was Aurora United Church being consumed by fire this past April won\u2019t soon be forgotten by the Aurora community.<\/p>\n<p>But, as the church community rebuilds, they are coming together next week to celebrate their past, mark that significant turning point in their history, and chart their way to the future in a new exhibition at the Aurora Cultural Centre. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAUC Alive: Continuing The Journey\u201d brings together artefacts salvaged from the ashes, along with a showcase of photography taken on April 11 by photographer Claire D\u2019Aurore into the Aurora Room. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAUC Alive\u201d celebrates a strong faith community and the overwhelming support of the community at large,\u201d says Jane Taylor of the Aurora Cultural Centre. \u201cA small collection of surviving artefacts, coupled with photos and text panels form the exhibition. A memory book invites the public to journal their thoughts and remembrances in a comfortable and contemplative seating area set up in the exhibition space. This exhibition is part of the Centre\u2019s ongoing Community as a Curator series, which invites the public to create heritage displays of social meaning to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAUC Alive\u201d runs from July 16 through September 27. <\/p>\n<p>For more with curator \u2013 and AUC historian \u2013 Helen Roberts, including just what was salvaged from the fire, watch for next
