It\u2019s not quite the end of 2013, but let\u2019s take a moment to look back at some news items this year in Aurora through that well-known story telling device, the limerick.<\/p>\n

January – Aurora to be split into two Federal ridings<\/em>
\nWhen the town\u2019s split into two ridings was news
\nOur Federal voice people feared we would loose
\nBut perhaps the worst blow
\nAnd what we wanted to know
\nWas which side of Wellington our MP would choose.
\n
\nFebruary – Petch House reconstruction nears completion<\/em>
\nPetch House\u2019s re-birth\u2019s been a real slog
\nIn approvals it\u2019s been in a fog
\nBut through work and repair
\nIt stands now proud and fair
\nJust too bad you cannot see the logs.<\/p>\n

March \u2013 Ongoing budget discussions<\/em>
\nReducing the budget, and how much to spend
\nRequired program cuts now, not when
\nCouncil argued and debated
\nBut in the end simply stated
\n\u201cWe\u2019ll just have to raise taxes again.\u201d
\n
\nApril \u2013 Cell tower built just west of Bathurst <\/em>
\nA cell tower appeared from the blue
\nAnd caused a big hullabaloo
\nCouncil sought legal advice
\nBut was told in a thrice
\nThere was nothing Aurora could do.<\/p>\n

May \u2013 Plans for the new Queen\u2019s Diamond Jubilee Park<\/em>
\nPark plans with debate have been fraught
\nShould playground equipment be bought?
\nOr shall soccer remain?
\nWhen she heard the refrain
\nThe Queen said, \u201cAmused, we are not.\u201d
\n
\nJune \u2013 Youth Centre plans move ahead slowly<\/em>
\nThe years of Youth Centre planning have flown
\nBy the time they place the last building stone
\nThe ones it was built for
\nWill be children no more
\nAnd, in fact, will have kids of their own.<\/p>\n

July \u2013 Residents protest tree cutting on nearby property<\/em>
\nWhen tree cutting caused people to freak
\nLocal government\u2019s help they did seek
\nThe region pondered and mused
\nBut unlike saws that were used
\nThey found their bylaw\u2019s teeth were quite weak <\/p>\n

August \u2013 Concerns raised about the length of Council meetings<\/em>
\nSaid a member \u201cthe time that we spend
\nThat gets longer each meeting, must end.\u201d
\nSo they discussed several ways
\nTo reduce the length of their stays
\nBut still adjourned past midnight, again.<\/p>\n

September – Aurora\u2019s 4th Sesquicentennial event is held<\/em>
\nThe last sesqui event was at hand
\nThe theme \u2018Culture across our fair land\u2019
\nBut all events for that day
\nThe rain, alas, washed away
\nSo a make-up event will be planned.<\/p>\n

October \u2013 Fair increase planned for York Transit<\/em>
\nAfter last year\u2019s strike they decreed
\nThe next month no payment you\u2019d need
\nBut it\u2019s now no surprise
\nThat bus fare\u2019s on the rise
\nIn the end, you know nothing is free.<\/p>\n
