The Aurora Public Library will be untraditionally LOUD on Saturday when an explosion of the arts takes place in the library living room as part of Culture Days 2013.
\nCulture Days, a national celebration, connects communities across the country to arts and culture in all its forms through free experiences and activities where artists, creators and participants join together to explore their own creativity and curiosity.
\nThe day\u2019s festivities begin with an invitation to join Polly and a host of her puppet friends at 10.30 a.m. for a very silly storytime that will delight the young and the young-at-heart. There will be stories, songs, rhymes, and of course, lots of giggles, furry hugs and fun.
\nThe afternoon will rock at 1.30 p.m. as slam poet, Sterling Dillinger, takes off with an original work that is part poetry, part beat-boxing, part music and all performance.
\nIn honour of Aurora\u2019s Sesquicentennial, Aurora Public Library held its first short story contest – with a twist. All stories had to begin with the same opening line, but here, all similarities stopped. Creative memoir, science fiction, non-fiction, murder mystery, psychological drama and romance were genres submitted.
\nCome for the announcement of winning entries, the prizes and the glory and enjoy a reading of the opening paragraphs of the three top entries. The ceremony starts at 1.45 p.m.
\nAll writing has its origins in storytelling and the Human Library takes interactive storytelling to its highest form. Billed as \u201cThe Human Library: books that talk back to you!\u201d visitors are invited to chat with engaging, famous and even infamous people with real life stories to share.
\nHow does the Human Library work? Read the synopsis of the Living Books on the library website or visit the display in the facility and choose the ones that pique your interest. You can place a hold in advance or just drop in the day of.
\nBe ready to chat and have your burning questions answered. The Human Library can be experienced between 2.00 \u2013 4.00 p.m. All \u201creads\u201d last for approximately 20 minutes.
\nCulture Days is a collaborative movement that welcomes your participation. The Aurora Cultural Roundtable invites you to celebrate your passions at the venues offered by Aurora Public Library, the Aurora Cultural Centre, the Aurora Farmer\u2019s Market and the Aurora Historical Society.<\/p>\n
