{"id":38056,"date":"2026-04-30T16:49:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T20:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=38056"},"modified":"2026-04-30T16:51:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T20:51:22","slug":"auroras-da-silva-named-yorks-next-police-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/auroras-da-silva-named-yorks-next-police-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurora\u2019s Da Silva named York\u2019s next Police Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>York Regional Police Deputy Chief Paulo Da Silva has been appointed to lead the force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Da Silva, whose appointment was announced by the York Regional Police Services Board on Thursday, will succeed outgoing Police Chief Jim MacSween on June 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Board said the new Chief-Designate was \u201cthe right leader to guide York Regional Police into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe is widely recognized for his sound judgement, collaborative leadership style, and dedication to excellence in policing,\u201d said Board Chair Steve Pellegrini, Mayor of King Township. \u201cHis experience and forward-looking perspective will be instrumental as the organization continues to evolve to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Da Silva has been in policing for more than 30 years and has served as a Deputy Chief in York for the last five. In this role, he has led the YRP\u2019s Administration Branch and, most recently, the Community Safety Branch, overseeing more than 1,200 members of the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Chief of Police, and I am grateful to the York Regional Police Services Board for their trust in my leadership,\u201d said Da Silva in a statement. \u201cYork Regional Police is defined by its people and its commitment to the communities we serve.
