Newmarket, unlike Aurora, welcomed the Jazz+ Festival with open arms. Despite the soggy start on Friday, the weather for the balance of the weekend was superb. The three-day event was a huge success with an estimated 9,000 \u2013 10,000 people attending.
\nGeorge and Sher St. Kitts deserve an overwhelming round of applause for organizing such a high energy, professional venue which featured top-level local artists.
\nThe Town of Newmarket treated the St. Kitts with respect, encouragement and provided the support they so richly deserved. Plans are underway for a bigger and better 2014 festival.
\nUnfortunately, some small-minded and short-sighted politicians in Aurora just don\u2019t, or won\u2019t, accept the tremendous loss to our community in both reputation and prestige \u2013 and all because of the ill-advised and highly questionable decision to allow perimeter fencing in Town Park.
\nWhat a shame!
\nWe certainly will remember in the next election.<\/p>\n
