{"id":34730,"date":"2024-06-20T12:48:15","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T16:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=34730"},"modified":"2024-06-20T12:48:17","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T16:48:17","slug":"charlotte-clementine-kolas-is-auroras-2024-teen-idol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/charlotte-clementine-kolas-is-auroras-2024-teen-idol\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte Clementine Kolas is Aurora\u2019s 2024 Teen Idol"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charlotte Clementine Kolas dreams of being on Broadway, and on Saturday she was named Aurora\u2019s 2024 Teen Idol after wowing judges with a selection from the Great White Way at the Aurora Performing Arts Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Held at Town Park, the Performing Arts Festival was hosted by Marquee Theatrical Productions in conjunction with the Town of Aurora, and saw three age groups showing off their skills in music, dance and drama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kolas, who is just finishing up Grade 8, took to the stage with \u201cLost in the Brass\u201d, a selection from the show Band Geeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt feels amazing,\u201d Charlotte Clementine told The Auroran moments after her name was announced by Mayor Tom Mrakas. \u201cI am just so excited to be able to perform more songs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Aurora\u2019s Teen Idol, Charlotte Clementine will be called upon to sing at numerous Town events, including performing the National Anthem at municipal occasions and valuable stage time at August\u2019s Ribfest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a member of Marquee Theatrical Productions, when she first heard about the competition through the program she says she knew she had to be a part of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI just love performing and making people happy,\u201d she said. \u201cI hope to be on Broadway one day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Runner up in this year\u2019s competition was another aspiring Broadway star, Chloe Lee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chloe performed \u201cRing of Keys.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRing of Keys\u201d is a key song from the musical Fun Home, based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, which charts her childhood in her family\u2019s funeral home and discovering her sexuality, all while living with her closeted gay father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy favourite kind of music to sing is musical theatre. Singing and acting is really fun. I also do drama, so I like doing singing and acting together. There is more story behind it,\u201d said Chloe. \u201c[\u2018Ring of Keys\u2019] is a really interesting song because it\u2019s a 10-year-old trying to figure out herself, but it\u2019s truly interesting to see because the musical itself is\u2026from when she\u2019s younger and older trying to discover herself and her sexuality\u2026.
