{"id":34027,"date":"2024-01-04T18:54:38","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T23:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=34027"},"modified":"2024-01-04T18:54:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T23:54:40","slug":"oboa-2023-local-writers-find-inspiration-in-finding-edward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/oboa-2023-local-writers-find-inspiration-in-finding-edward\/","title":{"rendered":"OBOA 2023: Local writers find inspiration in Finding Edward"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Themes of prejudice and bigotry explored in Sheila Murray\u2019s 2022 novel Finding Edward inspired local authors to explore these areas themselves through the Aurora Public Library\u2019s One Book One Aurora initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the course of One Book One Aurora\u2019s 10 year run at the Aurora Public Library, local photographers and writers were invited to submit their works on various themes inspired by the year\u2019s novel of choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2023\u2019s year\u2019s writers focused squarely on social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCentral to Finding Edward is the theme that the same prejudices and bigotry existed historically continue today and this year\u2019s One Book One Aurora contest invited you to consider the meaning of social justice,\u201d said Reccia Mandelcorn, the Aurora Public Library\u2019s Manager of Community Collaboration, at the One Book One Aurora finale this past fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First place in the writing contest went to Hyacinthe Ann Miller, an author of short stories, contemporary women\u2019s fiction and non-fiction, as well as magazine and newspaper articles.
