A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.
\nSummer is the season when a man thinks he can cook better on an outdoor grill than his wife can on an indoor stove.
\nSummer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to people.
\nFor those few months you\u2019re not required to be who everyone thinks you are. The fresh cut grass smell in the air & the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool, gives you courage you didn\u2019t think you had.
\nSummer just opens the door and lets you be free. Summertime is a time to feel young again.
\nI dream of warm summer nights, to lie in a hammock, staring at the stars and telling boring stories as my kids put it. I want to dip my toes in the water, to dangle my feet off the edge of the dock and sit leaning forward, laughing till our stomachs hurt, that\u2019s the summer I\u2019ve always dreamt about.
\nWhat kind of summer have we had thus far in 2013? Rain. More rain. Torrential rain. Floods in fact. Well, anyway, the grass is green. Greener than I\u2019ve seen it in years. Aurora has flowers blooming and the walk through the Arboretum is as enjoyable as ever on those sunny, warm days.
\nIn spite of the rain, the bocce courts at the Seniors\u2019 Centre are full of laughter and good sportsmanship as we continue to enjoy these days of summer while they last.
\nI was playing bid euchre this past Tuesday at the Seniors Centre when my worthy playing partner Carl made the statement \u201cWhere has summer gone? It seems like it is half over already\u201d. To which, one of our worthy opponents, Ray, responded \u201cLife is like a roll of toilet paper…the older it gets, the faster it goes.\u201d
\nSummer is kind of like the ultimate one-night stand: hot as hell, totally thrilling, and gone before you know it. Or as the Beatles put it: It\u2019s been a long, cold, lonely winter; it feels like years since it\u2019s been here, here comes the sun.
\nSo enjoy the rest of summer. Enjoy playing bocce, enjoy the Seniors Walking Club, enjoy the BBQ\u2019s on the deck at your Seniors Centre and above all else, remember, it is summertime and the living is easy so get out and live it!
\nAlways remember, if you\u2019ve got troubles, send them to day camp!<\/p>\n


\nSeniors Day at the Farmers Market<\/strong>
\nOn Saturday, August 3 at the Aurora Town Park, we invite all seniors to come and enjoy an hour of entertainment by members of the Aurora Seniors Association. We will entertain all at the bandshell from 10 to 11.30 p.m. with talented and entertaining actors, comedians, singers and guitar players as well as line dancing where everyone can participate and much more. Admission is free. You can also visit the Farmers\u2019 Market with all the fresh produce, baked goods and more!
\nOur Seniors\u2019 Centre will also have three booths from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., come rain or shine. Our talented Knotty Knitters, Sew Much Fun and Wood Shop Rebels volunteers will all be there to show off and sell their crafts. Also members of the Seniors\u2019 Centre Chess Club will be ready to challenge anyone to a lively game of chess.<\/p>\n

Country and Western Dance<\/strong>
\nOn Friday, August 16 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., all Seniors\u2019 Centre members are encouraged to put on your cowboy boots and hats and join us in a Country and Western dance at the Seniors\u2019 Centre. There will be country and western music, dancing, refreshments, line dancing demonstrations and lots of door prizes! All this for only $5 a ticket.
\nTickets are on sale at the Front Desk of the Centre. There will also be a cash bar available. Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. And if you are not a member, this might be the time to think of joining!
\nMy Final Word: Some days you just have to create your own sunshine.<\/p>\n
