{"id":32845,"date":"2023-03-30T19:09:57","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T23:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=32845"},"modified":"2023-03-30T19:09:58","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T23:09:58","slug":"from-one-artist-to-another-king-touched-by-local-artists-poem-tribute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/from-one-artist-to-another-king-touched-by-local-artists-poem-tribute\/","title":{"rendered":"From one artist to another \u2013 King touched by local artist\u2019s poem, tribute"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During his time as Prince of Wales, King Charles III, like so many of us, found a creative outlet through art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using watercolour as his medium, he\u2019s used his art to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities close to his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Queen Elizabeth II died last September, Aurora artist Deborah Campo was moved towards her own creative outlet, picking up her pen to share an original poem of condolence to the new King and Queen, along with graphic collages paying tribute to the monarchs\u2019 interests and passions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI enclosed my poem from my first book, On Angel\u2019s Wings &amp; Moonbeams, which was a condolence poem I wrote for my grandmother when she was quite ill,\u201d says Campo, who designed the Peace Flame Tree sculpture that takes pride of place outside Aurora Town Hall. \u201cI hand-wrote the poem to His Majesty and my condolences for his mother on the other, and I think he was quite touched by that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poem is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My heart is forever filled with love for Thee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My tears they fall like rain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No greater pain I find within<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My soul I search again<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m comforted by your spirit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May you rest in gentle peace<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For thou art always with me,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My memories forever shall remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her letter, Campo highlighted the King\u2019s love of art and favourite causes, and these words were translated into a collage for the King \u2013 as well as one for Queen Camilla, highlighting her passion for literacy and efforts to combat domestic violence both in the United Kingdom and in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cQueen Elizabeth was a wonderful woman with a wonderful legacy, and she was history,\u201d says Campo, proudly showing a response she received from Buckingham Palace on February 23 in which it says the King had asked for his thanks to be expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The King, it reads, was \u201ctouched\u201d by both the card and the \u201cdigital graphic artwork\u2026 and [the King] is most grateful to you for taking the trouble to write as you did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campo continues. \u201cMonths had passed since I sent it so I completely forgot about it, just thinking how from one artist to another it was just nice to send something not only of condolence but appreciation for the type of work he does. I wanted him to have a life portrait like I had done for his beloved mother as well as for Queen Consort Camilla. This is a gift like I\u2019ve never had \u2013 for the King to recognize your art and poetry is just beyond words.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campo adds she\u2019s excited to see the King and Queen\u2019s Coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is something I will dress up for \u2013 hat and all,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s history and I think all students should watch it in schools.
