We’re hitting the ball well and we put up 10 runs today. It seems like we can put up runs no matter what. Our pitching has been pretty good,” he said.

“Confidence is running high for sure. We’re ranked second right now, so we’re going to try and move up the standings and get home-field to start the playoffs and the grind starts now.”

The next night, the Jays hosted the Bolton Dodgers at Lambert Willson Park and were able to win the game thanks to four runs scored in the first two innings.

Ian Rettie pitched a solid game for the Jays, going the full seven innings, allowing one run on five hits.

Power hitter Ted Beadle once again led the offence for the Jays with three hits and one run. Chris Bloom, Kevin Buck and Chris Leslie also added runs to help give the Jays a 4 – 1 win.

“We hit pretty well against the Bolton Dodgers earlier in the week,” said Beadle. “We hit them hard early and then put them away with good defence.”
The Jays then welcomed the Nobleton Cornhuskers to town for a Sunday matinee.

The Cornhuskers outplayed the Jays to start the game, but eventually the Jays started to come together behind starter Chris Leslie.

“Leslie was pitching really well,” said Wilson, who played catcher. “Our defence seemed to let him down a little bit at the start. It seems like every time he gets to the mound we don’t give him a lot of defensive support. But we started off slow today and after that the defence settled in behind him and he kept throwing strikes. He pitched really well.”

By the bottom of the fifth, the Jays took back command of the game with a 7 – 3 lead.

“Once the gloves catch up to the sticks we can usually do some damage,” Wilson said. “If one of the three areas of our game is letting us down, the other two are good enough to keep us in the game until the rest of it catches up. You’re not going to win many games if you don’t have all three lined up.”

Beadle agreed that the bats woke up to give his team an 11 – 3 win.

“I think we’re hitting well and if our pitching comes around we’re going to be a hard team to beat for sure,” he said. “We walked a lot of batters in the first few innings, combined with a couple errors, they were up on us in the first inning. Then we just went in and shook it off and started pounding the ball.”

Looking to hold on to home field advantage for the playoffs, the Jays face an important stretch in their last three games of the season.
On Thursday the Jays will head to Bolton to face the league leading Brewers, before coming home for their last game of the season on Tuesday against the Barrie Angels.

“We had a good chat after the game today to make sure we’re all in the right mindset as we’re coming into these games and treat them like the playoffs, because one way or another we’re going to have to beat them to win the Cup,” said Wilson.

<a class="synved-social-button synved-social-button-share synved-social-size-24
