Expect to see a lot more of Aurora\u2019s soccer stars in the weeks ahead. <\/p>\n

Now that Aurora\u2019s U9 Stinger Girls have been properly kitted out in their Bank of Montreal suits after being crowned BMO\u2019s Team of the Week the last week of June, the fight is on to secure their glory as Canada\u2019s \u201cUltimate\u201d Team of the Week.<\/p>\n

As the grand prize comes not only with $5,000 for the local charity of their choice but, if they win, the Bank of Montreal will give $125,000 to Aurora for the refurbishment of our local soccer fields.<\/p>\n

Believing this is a quest everyone in Aurora can get behind \u2013 and a goal which will require you logging onto www.bmosoccer.com next month! \u2013 Spencer Kanen of the Aurora Youth Soccer Club (AYSC) took the girls, their coaches, and their parents to Council last week to secure the support of Council and the public at large. <\/p>\n

\u201cThese amazing young girls continue to inspire all of us in their unselfish determination, perseverance, friendship and their teamwork extends well beyond the game they love,\u201d said Mr. Kanen. \u201cTheir passion for the game is not determined by the number of games won, but by their commitment to each other and to our community. We at the AYSC cannot be more proud of their accomplishments. It\u2019s not surprising that the U9 Girls were selected the BMO Team of the Week in recognition of teams that demonstrate the characteristics of good sportsmanship, pride, spirit, dedication, and passion for the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis achievement is a great opportunity for the Girls to bring national recognition to their team and our Town. This is a great opportunity for the Aurora Youth Soccer Club and the Town of Aurora to work together for these exceptional ladies for the benefit of the whole community. We would like to ask that Council support promoting the team\u2019s quest of becoming the ultimate grand prize winner during the Team of the Week competition. We will need assistance from the Aurora community to encourage the registration of as many team supporters as possible during the competition and voting period from August 5 until August 19.\u201d<\/p>\n

If the U9 ladies win, they will not be the first York Region team to take home the prize. In the southern end of the Region, the Glen Shields Soccer Club won with the support of surrounding sports teams and, indeed, surrounding communities, securing just over 73,000 of the over 283,000 votes cast overall in the campaign. <\/p>\n

\u201cI say this to emphasize what it will take a massive effort of all of us, our membership, our Town and local sports organizations, to deliver this pride to the community. I should say you should expect to hear from the AYSC on how Aurora can support this event,\u201d said Mr. Kanen. <\/p>\n

Added Coach Christine Griffiths: \u201cSoccer is what brought us together but kindness, compassion, and commitment to causes greater than ourselves is what keeps us glued.
