{"id":2705,"date":"2013-06-19T21:13:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-20T01:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/?p=2705"},"modified":"2013-07-03T18:34:16","modified_gmt":"2013-07-03T22:34:16","slug":"sports-hall-of-fame-wants-your-nominations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newspapers-online.com\/auroran\/sports-hall-of-fame-wants-your-nominations\/","title":{"rendered":"Sports Hall of Fame wants your nominations!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is your chance to honour your local sporting heroes \u2013 the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is looking for your nominations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe inaugural Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be hosted in November of 2013 and is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches and builders\/contributors in our community,\u201d says Sport Aurora. <\/p>\n<p>The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame and Board of Governors is now accepting nominations through June 28.<\/p>\n<p>The mandate of the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is to acknowledge the significant and exceptional achievements and contribution to athletics and sports within the Town of Aurora.<\/p>\n<p>A recipient must have direct connection to Aurora as defined by the following criteria:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tWas born in Aurora; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tWas raised or spent their formative years in Aurora; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tAchieved their athletic prominence in Aurora; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tMade their contributions to athletics and sports in Aurora.<\/p>\n<p>A recipient may be inducted to the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame in one of three categories:  Athlete, Coach, Builder\/Contributor.<\/p>\n<p>The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors values the qualities of upstanding character and sportsmanship and reserves the right to reject nominations based on moral, criminal or ethical grounds.<\/p>\n<p>For nominees in the athlete category, the athlete\u2019s sport must have a corresponding Provincial\/National Governing Sport Body in Canada.     <\/p>\n<p>The nominee must have:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tDemonstrated outstanding achievement in their athletic field of endeavour; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tbrought honour and fostered pride in the Town of Aurora through their athletic achievements.<br \/>\n\u2022\tAn athlete must have been out of competition in their acknowledged sports for a minimum of five years.<br \/>\n\u2022\tCompetition may be at the local, regional, provincial, national, international or professional level.<br \/>\nFor potential coaches, the coach\u2019s sport must also have a corresponding provincial or national governing sport body in Canada. They must have:<br \/>\n\u2022\tmade a major contribution to the development and advancement of sport locally, provincially, nationally or internationally.<br \/>\n\u2022\tcompiled an outstanding career of coaching\/managing championship teams and\/or athletes.<br \/>\n\u2022\tA coach must have been out of competition in their acknowledged sport for a minimum of five years or be over 50 years of age.<br \/>\nBuilders\/Contributors must have demonstrated outstanding service to the sporting community of Aurora over a period of years in sports via:<br \/>\n\u2022\tContribution to sport in Aurora through philanthropy and\/or leadership; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tHaving been active in any capacity serving sport, such as:  trainer, media, administrator, official\/referee, sports medicine, or manager; OR<br \/>\n\u2022\tHaving made a significant financial contribution to the building of sport infrastructure in the Town of Aurora.       <\/p>\n<p>Nomination Forms are available on the Sport
