York Region residents will have to wait a little longer\nto find out when communities, including Aurora, can enter Stage 3 of the\nProvince\u2019s plan to re-open the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Premier Doug Ford announced 24 of the\nProvince\u2019s Regions were ready to go to the next phase, but York Region \u2013 along\nwith Toronto, Peel, Durham, Niagara, Windsor-Essex, Haldiman-Norfolk, Hamilton\nand Lambton \u2013 missed the cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clarity, however, could come as early as next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs we all know, these Regions entered Stage 2 later on\nso we need just a little more time,\u201d said Premier Ford. \u201cI want the people in\nthese Regions to know we won\u2019t leave anyone behind, and we will provide an\nupdate every Monday on Regional re-openings. We will keep working together\nuntil every part of this Province gets to Stage 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are moving forward as a Province, but we can\u2019t stop;\nwe won\u2019t stop until we get every person in Ontario, every worker in Ontario,\nback to work and back on their feet. Today\u2019s news is an important step forward.\nIt is an important step in getting life back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNormal\u201d in this context means new limits on public\ngatherings, including allowing up to 100 people to gather indoors and up to 50\npeople indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stage 3 also means \u201cnearly all businesses and public\nplaces will be allowed to open their doors safely,\u201d including dine-in\nrestaurants, bars, gyms and fitness centres, most personal care services, live\nshows, performing arts spaces, movie theatres, casinos, recreational\nfacilities, team sports and live sporting events and guide services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, we are taking another important step forward in\nour journey to re-open our Province,\u201d said Health Minister \u2013 and\nNewmarket-Aurora MPP \u2013 Christine Elliott on Monday. \u201cWe are only able to move\nthe Province into Stage 3 because of considerable and ongoing efforts of all\nOntarians to stop the spread of COVID-19. Physical distancing, wearing face coverings,\npracticing good hand hygiene and keeping our social circles safe have been\ncritical in helping to achieve this milestone today and will remain critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are asking everyone to continue these everyday\nactions to help keep our friends, neighbours and family members safe so that we\ncan continue to safely enjoy the loosening of restrictions. As we have done\nwith Stage 2, we will continue the ongoing assessment of all regions and will\nadvise whether a specific region is ready to move into Stage 3 every week.  As we do, we will be able to safely move\nevery Region of our Province into Stage 3, so long as we continue to see public\nhealth trends move in the right direction as they have been. Once we take this\nimportant step forward, we expect the Province will stay in Stage 3 for the\nforeseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHERE THINGS STAND IN AURORA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As most of Ontario, excluding the GTA, moves into Stage 3\nand York Region prepares for the mandatory use of masks and face coverings in\nall indoor public places as of 12.01 a.m. this Friday, July 17, Aurora has seen\na continued uptick in active cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two weeks ago, the local number of active cases was in\nthe single digits. At press time Tuesday, Aurora was grappling with 16 active\ncases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, Aurora has experienced 127 confirmed cases of\nthe virus, with 96 cases now marked resolved. 15 cases have proved fatal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 of the 16 active cases are attributed to local\ntransmission or close contact of a case, with the 1 remaining case related to\nan institutional outbreak outside Aurora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of July 14, York Region has seen a total of 3,172 cases, 2,620 of which have been marked recovered. 303 active cases remain and 249 cases have resulted in death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
