Aurora resident and mother Meghan Seybold has pledged to\nride 2,200 kilometres to support youth\u2019s mental health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a full-time employee as Director and HR Business\nPartner with RBC, Seybold, 51, founded an initiative of her own entitled\nImagine Ride in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She says this idea surfaced after meeting Eric Windeler, Founder\nand Executive Director of Jack.org, a national charity organization\nspecifically for supporting youth mental health, at an event hosted by RBC in\n2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was just so amazed with the work they were doing, engaging\nyouth leaders across Canada to really support youth mental health and\nunderstanding how to be there for others that are struggling,\u201d Seybold explained.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seybold is not one to shy away from past struggles of her\nown. In her early 20s, she suffered from depression. She knows how difficult it\nis to ask for help and she believes this organization is the right one to\nsupport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are 28,000 youth across Ontario on the waiting list\nto speak to someone as per the Children\u2019s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO), says\nSeybold. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) recently conducted a\nsurvey from April 10 to 24, she added, and asked people aged 14 to 27 to answer\nquestions about their mental health. They reported statistically significant\ndeterioration of mental health from pre-pandemic times to the point of data\ncollection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since beginning this partnership last July, Seybold began\nextensive preparations for her Imagine Ride campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-COVID-19, she was supposed to begin at the RBC branch\nin Kenora, ON, and then travel to Espanola, Manitoulin Island, Orangeville,\nAurora, Toronto and end it off in Ottawa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Altering her route, Seybold will accomplish her goal of\nriding 2,200 kilometres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, every Monday and Wednesday night I will be on my\nbike trainer and ride about 60 kilometres. And then, Fridays, Saturdays and\nSundays, I\u2019ll be out on the roads and I\u2019m hoping to average 120 kilometres a\nday.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When riding on her trainer, Seybold will be on Facebook\nLive and through an app called Zwift. A cadence meter attached to her bicycle will\ntrack power, speed and the kilometres ridden. People across the globe can tune\nin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some RBC colleagues of Seybold\u2019s will also be tuning in\nto witness her efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to Meghan for her advocacy and the\nattention she is bringing to the mental health crisis facing Canada\u2019s youth.\nHer support means we can work to build a new future for youth mental health,\none where all young people have access to timely support, and understand how to\nlook out for themselves and other,\u201d Windeler said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Jack.org, suicide is still the leading cause\nof mental health related fatalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One in seven victims report suicidal thoughts and in this\nyear alone 150,000 youth have acted on their thoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
