The Aurora Tigers are set to begin preseason preparations\ndespite the uncertainties which may lie ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head Coach Jim Wells Jr. says he is trying to envision what\nnext season might look like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe biggest thing we\u2019ve been doing as a group is trying to\nfigure out what next season is going to look like,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re waiting for\nthe league and their direction. Right now, we\u2019re on a no recruit, no scout.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team must also wait for the provincial and federal\ngovernment decisions for recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once a decision is processed, the team can begin to see when\ntraining camps can take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tigers want to execute this three-phased plan in the\nmiddle of this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the strenuous efforts within the club to prepare for\nupcoming events ahead, there is no telling whether or not their plan in motion\nwill be able to combat any unexpected difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019ve done is we\u2019ve put plans in place, with plan A, B,\nC. And, we don\u2019t even know if A, B, C are going to be the scenarios,\u201d Wells added.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat traditionally has happened in hockey is going to be\ndrastically changed. We just don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to be changed and we\u2019ll\nhave to be prepared to adjust quickly and accordingly.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That begins now. Wells intends to begin hosting Zoom calls\nwith the team followed by individual chats. Finally, fitness routines will be\nimplemented to supplement the loss of the sport for the past few months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a tough adjustment for the players to get used\nto the mere fact that hockey has almost unequivocally been wiped out from their\ndaily lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The boys have had to adjust to a new way of living since the\nquarantine without access to the rink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aurora Tigers defenceman and Clif Bar OJHL Community Award\nwinner Trevor Grasby says he has taken this time to work on things he may not\nhave had the chance to practice before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in the driveway basically every day for an hour\nshooting pucks or stick handling. That\u2019s actually helped and hopefully it can\ntranslate on the ice whenever we get to go back on the ice,\u201d Grasby said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grasby uses this time to exercise in the backyard to stay in\nshape and spend quality time getting closer with his family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He works out with his 14-year-old brother, Kyle, who also\nplays hockey. The two of them motivate each other through this time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grasby has found another way to practice some way of\nskating. He has purchased roller blades and says although it is not the same as\nthe ice, it\u2019s the closest thing he is going to get. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the team, he says the boys are anxious; deprived of\nthe sport and of each other\u2019s company. They all frequently communicate with one\nanother. The Facetime calls are not cutting it anymore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all just anxious to get back together. Aside from\ngetting back on the ice, you just want to be able to see your friends. There is\na difference between getting to Facetime them and getting to see them in\nperson. It is all pretty much the same feelings, we\u2019re just chomping at the bit\nto get back at it,\u201d Grasby explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it\u2019s one thing that both Wells and Grasby have in common,\nit is watching NHL rewinds on Sportsnet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wells is a historian of the sport and he is interested in\nre-watching classic hockey games to occupy his time while keeping close tabs on\nhow the NHL is set to bring back their season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Grasby, the feeling is quite similar. The defenceman\nsays it\u2019s been interesting to see how the game has evolved over the years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, the team is excited to enforce their plan ahead of the 2020-2021 season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
