As the COVID-19 curve begins to show some early signs of\nflattening, some restrictions put in place in response to the pandemic have\nbegun to ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the Province\u2019s decision to allow garden\ncentres, landscape companies, and other businesses with the space for curbside\npickup to begin working with customers again, the Town of Aurora has eased some\nrestrictions around the use of park spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, the Town announced a return to \u201climited\u201d use\nof public open spaces across Aurora, with the exceptions of play structures and\nplaygrounds, swings, washrooms, benches, picnic tables, shelters and the\noff-leash dog park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy allowing our residents to use our open park spaces,\nwe are providing much-needed access to families of the same household to spend\ntime outdoors,\u201d said Mayor Tom Mrakas in a statement. \u201cThis will aid in the\nhealth and wellbeing of our community and give residents a chance to flatten\nthe COVID-19 curve and practice safe physical distancing, washing our hands\noften and following the provincial orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAurora will fully reopen its parks and facilities once\nit is safe to do so. Our number one priority is the safety of our residents,\nvisitors and community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Provincial Orders are still in effect, the ban on\norganized public events, gatherings of more than five people (inclusive of\ngatherings on private property, but excluding family members who reside at the\nsame address) physical distancing of at least two metres for non-household\nmembers during all outdoor activities, and entry to and use of certain outdoor\nrecreational amenities still stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Examples of activities permitted once again in parks by\nthe Town include playing catch or kicking a soccer ball, flying a kite, exercising\nand stretching on a yoga mat, but not in a class, and letting young children\nrun around these green spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open spaces owned by local school boards and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, including Sheppard\u2019s Bush, remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
