Sport Aurora\u2019s live Zoom conference last week outlined multiple\ntactics to support small businesses through sport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marketing Specialist Lisa Dunbar instructed the community on\nwhat they can do to promote their business through the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session, entitled, \u201cChanging\nYour Game Plan and Leveraging Virtual Communities to Support Your Sport\nOrganization, Athletes and Parents\u201d<\/em> combats the pandemic by adapting to the\nvirtual community market in the hopes of providing service options to members\nand citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A long-time resident of Aurora, Dunbar shares that although\nuncertainty may create an overwhelming environment, she suggests showing what\nyou know is the first step. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to try and not to be where there is a spot of\nuncertainty, and if there is, call it,\u201d Dunbar explained.  \u201cHere is what we know today and here is what\nwe\u2019re doing on the back end. You may be a sport organization that has not had\nan essentialized place to communicate with athletes and our members, you can\nsay, \u2018we\u2019re developing a website. We\u2019re developing this back-end work while\nworking our way through COVID.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her 20-minute virtual presentation, Dunbar was invited on\nbehalf of See What She Can Do, a community dedicated to promote women\u2019s\nactivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dunbar said this is an opportunity for businesses to show\nwhat they\u2019re capable of, advancing to her first lesson on pivoting the service\nmodel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a base for this example, Dunbar explained the recent\nstrategies used by Cross-Fit Newmarket and Aurora Central. Both have seemingly\nfound a way to serve their members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe change, if you will, or their pivot, is they now offer\nvirtual classes. They\u2019re hosting Zoom classes with virtual strength training or\nsome specialty classes. They\u2019ve put out a resiliency challenge to their members\nand to their family and friends. They\u2019re also offering to members if they need\nequipment to continue to train at home, they are welcome to borrow it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both companies have also reached out to the local food\nbusiness to discuss solutions around healthy food and nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spartan Race, scheduled for this year in 2020, is also\ncontinuing to promote their race to people and are encouraging residents to\nsign up. According to Dunbar, although there is still a degree of uncertainty, the\nrace will resume in 2021 if it cannot be completed this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other companies, such as 3D Printing Canada, Magna and Mill\nStreet Brewery are all collectively taking a course of action as well to work\noutside of their markets. Mill Street has manufactured hand sanitizer, Magna\nhas developed face masks and 3D Printing Canada has manufactured headbands and\nmasks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another company that has pivoted through COVID-19, is Bauer,\nmanufacturing face shields for front line workers instead of goalie masks and\nskates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dunbar presented a six-step process to those tuning in for\nways to re-imagine yourself as a business. Joining natural community networks,\npartnering with complementary businesses to launch new services, providing\ncontract offers with other businesses to support each other, be a thoughtful\nleader in offering blog posts, for instance, launch fundraising and offer\nvirtual trials were all mentioned in the meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In more ways than one, sports businesses can serve clients,\nbut it is also about adhering to the current predicament that is outside of the\nsports realm and how you can help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capitalizing on this moment to showcase what your business is all about may have the opportunity of furthering your development as a company once everything goes back to normal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
